Academy 1:700 USS Enterprise (CV-6) - Unboxing and Review
After more than thirty years of waiting, Academy finally gives us a new injection-molded 1:700 kit of the most decorated warship of World War II: the Yorktown-class aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6).
I'm a tremendous fan of this class of carriers, so this release is close to my heart. Let's see if Academy disappoints or if they've created something worthy of Enterprise's name.

RMS Titanic in 1:700 - Academy vs. Revell
Переглядів 25 тис.7 років тому
Finding info on TItanic model kits is far easier in 1:350 than 1:700. Both Academy and Revell have corrected this by releasing new toolings of the doomed liner in recent years, but neither kit is perfect. Come along as I compare some of the salient features of both of these kits - Academy's RMS Titanic and Revell's RMS Olympic (Olympic is used here because A) their mold is nearly identical to t...

Tips and Tricks: Photoetch Railing
Переглядів 75 тис.7 років тому
Improving a ship build with photoetch rails is one of the most common and effective ways to add realism to your finished product. Despite this, it can be a difficult skill to master. Here's my take on the subject, with a description and demonstration of the tools and techniques that I use to add these details to my 1:700 projects. Tamiya's Saratoga kit is pretty nice in its own respects, and definitely has some clever engineering qualities. However, the special edition Pontos photoetch set that complements this kit is downright brilliant. Check out this video to see what you're getting when you open the box! The trumpeter kit comes with 12 of each aircraft
It's now early 2024 and Gator's Grip and the sms006 are basicaly gone off the market. What is everyone using to replace these items?
6 years later watching this, all l can think of is Clint’s, ‘a man has got to know his limitations’.
Absolutely grand tutorial many thanks
Mm
Finally! A ship-relatrd channel I love to watch and listen - but I can't. Because the audio quality is so poor! Please get a proper mike that picks up what you're saying, even when you turn away. Otherwise - wonderful channel! Guchi
Impressive but the scale makes the PE ridiculously small and hard to work with. I would have to go with somthing larger
Thanks for the tutorial. I've been modelling for a long time, and I still picked up a few new tricks. Good Job!
Cool kit.
Your advice prepare me for my uss texas my friend... thanks so much..
Great guide, thanks for sharing!
Wife grandfather gave me The General but without the building instructions. Would anyone have a copy they can take pictures of and send over? I cannot find pdf download for this??? HELP
Nice. BUT GET YOUR HAND OUT OF THE PICTURE !!
Old video but still very useful! If there is a very long but relatively straight section of railing, such as along the main deck of the ship, I assume you still want to break that up and do smaller sections at a time?
Great video! what about a comparison between the trumpeter and new Acadamy kit?
The boat you ve mentioned that is not present during Midway, will it be just the boat or that includes the whole structure that hauls it down? The frame around the boat I mean.
Does anyone model Fletcher-class destroyers in other navies' service in the 1960s-1990s? HNS Velos is a famous Fletcher class destroyer, with an interesting role in the history of democracy in modern Greece. Did the ROC Navy Fletcher's see near-action in any of the Taiwan straight crises? Argentina's Fletcher class unit were too old for the 1982 South Atlantic War, but did participate in the 1962 "quarantine" [i.e., blockade] of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Plenty of interesting scenes to model there...
Drill bits and a sponge buffing stick make a perfect PE roller.
Revell made a USS Enterprise CV6 many years ago, I think in the 50's or 60's. I am not certain how accurate it was, but it was about the same scale (1/700 or similar). I had it but is now somewhere in my mother's house, and I assemble it in the 70's :)
I wonder why the Trumpeter Essex flight deck is two pieces when their Ticonderoga is one piece
Superb tutorial, I am about to build my first 1/700 ship and this was just what I need. I really did not have a clue how I would tackle railings so thank you for the great tips and enjoyable presentation.
What are these dowels? If i use the Google Translation it tells me that these are the things you put into a drilled whole in a wall to secure screws. But those dowels are made of plastic, not metal.
I am still inclined to go with the new Academy kit of Enterprise.
Thank you for the great Tutorial. I am about to tackle some railing myself.
It’s a Yorktown class “object”!!! Sick burn on Tamiya! Excellent review!! Thanks!
I have never made a UA-cam comment, but this video deserves absolute praise! Now, I only wish I watched this BEFORE I built my 1/700 Oliver Hazard Perry mast. Work in sections. Why didn’t I think of that 😩 Thank you for the great tips 👍👏
Thanks for the good advice! I do a lot of what you do, I use bottle caps instead of an ashtray for the glue, and I do use the cut off pins. The piece of foam is a great Idea I hadn't thought of, I'll have to get some!
My Dad was a Plank Owner of this Ship. He earned 10 Battle Stars on it.
Thank you for this! Almost bought Academy's because of the LEDs.
Looks like they are out of business already, or at least their website is no longer operational. Anyway, I really appreciate the level of detail they put into these. It can make call of the difference.
Beautiful job mate! Subscribed!
which one is better my volume isnt working sorry i cant hear
Revell
i want the one that has more f4u corsairs
I came across with another 700 scale flattop. The kits brand is pitroad skywave. CV8 hornet Doolittle raid. Hope you can do a review video on this. Happy modeling!
what glue did you use for attaching the photo etch parts
Fantastic tutorial! Your tips and techniques will be a great help to me.
I have the 1/350 minicraft titanic that came with photo etched peices and I've been attempting to attach the railings for 3 days now. Every time I walk out of the room they fall off. I haven't made any progress and I'm this close to not adding railings at all
This is a now ancient kit released many years ago by Skywave/Pit Road, it's not a Dragon original kit. It's also been boxed up and sold by Revell (German Revell). Dragon updated it with some new parts. A lot of the parts are clunky compared to up to date kits. The huge flaw in this kit is that, the part that fills the hull gap is hugely thick and give the model an armour belt much thicker than Yamato's would be in this scale, it also goes almost to the stern, which is very wrong. Fix that and with some decent aftermarket details (like AA guns, etch etc) and it's the basis of a good model
Thanks for this. Really useful comparison. For me, the shell plating kills the Academy kit. Wondering now about either cross kitting, or getting the Rainbow set to fit the Revell kit.
nice tips... i have some silver metal ones.. so that is not brass...im guessing stainless steel? do i have to prep that for paint? tks
Why i cant buy the Olympic anymore
Ordered it
What about airfix?
I think Olympic model kits are much rarer than Titanic kits tbh
how many planes are there in each type in the kit of trumpeter uss essex plz respond
Revisit with the Trumpeter kit? Or gearing class with Snowman Models offferings?
Where did you get the kit
I wonder if Academy will treat us to a 1944 fit CV-6 USS Enterprise? I own this model and it is STUNNING!! Bite my butt Trumpeter! I won't buy any of your spurious, vague USN CV models!
2-piece Trumpy flight deck? What a pain in the butt! Just like their 1/700 USN light cruisers with the 3 part hull. I am happy I didn't buy any Trumpeter Essex class CV's. I wonder how other WWII USN CV modelers feel about the brittle clear plastic Trumpeter molds their 1/700 Aircraft in. Do YOU mask those teeny canopies? Buffalo Biscuits!! I do NOT! "NO aircraft carrier ever had a clear flight deck." Quite so! Thanks for a no-baloney comparison! I'll hang on to my Dragon 1/700 Essex CV's!
You, sir, are a genius, but also crazy lol. I would not even attempt that at 1/700 scale. I just about finished IJN Hyuga in 1/700th and I was going crazy with just the kit parts. Far too small. That was my last in that scale. 1/350th or nothing from now on.
